MATSUDA

MATSUDA has played an important role in pop culture and fashion and as a patron of the arts for over 50 years. Their design is East meets West in playful exploration.

About

In the 1960s, Mitsuhiro Matsuda experimented with the deconstruction of western design through his study of traditional Japanese fashion. Matsuda created pieces that evoke a profound connection with the past – playfully innovative with a touch of European romance. Inspired by Gothic architecture, Victorian art, and American jazz, Matsuda opened the door for an international, avant-garde wave of new design steeped in cultural heritage, designed for tomorrow. Matsuda is genuinely East meets West in design, manufacturing and culture.

Each Matsuda design is crafted by hand in the renowned eyewear workshop in Sabae, Japan and demands 250 steps, 71 hours and 13 artisans to bring to life. Matsuda uses the finest metals in the world - titanium, steel, sterling silver and 18k solid gold - but also organic plastic and acetate.

Timeless, innovative design and superior craftsmanship define Matsuda.
